Reading Strategies

Here are the reading strategies we use in class.  They each pertain to a different animal and are kid friendly.  We have 8 different strategies that can help us:
Picture
Bird's Eye: Use your "birds eye" to look at the pictures to help figure out the words in the sentence.
Picture
Fish Lips: get your fish lips ready to read! Say the first sound and try it again.
Picture
Stretchy Snake: Stretch out the entire word and put the sounds together.
Picture
Chunky Monkey: Chunk the word by looking at parts of the word you do know.
Picture
Skippy Frog: Skip the word in the sentence and come back to it.
Picture
Flippy Dolphin: Try to flip the vowel sound in the word.
Picture
Tryin' Lion: Don't give up! Read the sentence again and try a word that makes sense.
Picture
Helpful Hippo: AFTER you have tried all the strategies, ask for help!
