This week the student's have been practicing fluency during reading. Fluency in reading is accuracy of the words they are reading, using expression to read, and speed at which the words are read. To practice, we used Reader's Theater. Student's were paired together and learned a small play. They practiced throughout the week by learning what the play was about, reading in a group, then reading it together with their partner. To emphasize expression, we even practiced using different voices which the student's loved. To hear the audio of the student's plays please click the link below. We will be doing one more set of Reader's Theater plays next week to continue practicing fluency. At home students can practice by reading their books with expression - is it a question? is the character excited? Fluency can be FUN!
